Ayurvedic medicines has gained worldwide recognition for its contribution to general medicine (Charak’s treatise) and surgery (Sushrut). However less is known to modern world about its contribution to new born care, perinatal care. Although it is a well-known fact that Newborn and Pediatric care was well elaborated in different texts of Ayurveda, the first exclusive text book of Kaumarbhritya viz. Kashyapa Samhita dated 6^th century BC.

The department of kaumarbhritya seeks to improve the health of children across India.

The department also seeks to excel in academics, research and the education of clinicians.
